Sarah crossfield
A visual artist working mainly in printmaking, painting, and photography. Sarah is based in Brockley and joined the team in 2019. Graduated from the Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Art, Oxford University. In her practice Sarah is drawn to exploring the ephemeral nature of the world we inhabit. Her observations capture moments in time, using both representational and more reductive/abstract approaches. Shifting forms, light, texture, and colour are reflected in her pieces alongside themes of transition, regeneration, and disintegration.
Andrew Sleightholme
Andrew is a Brockley-based photographer and musician. He grew up in the North-East of England on the border of County Durham and North Yorkshire, and was drawn from an early age towards the dark and powerful landscapes of the Pennines and the North Sea coast, experiences which have informed his creative practice and love of wild places and the metaphors distilled within them. Andrew went on to read music at Oxford University, and has exhibited photographic work in solo shows in both London and Whitstable.
Sophie Teasdale
Spending time shooting and processing photographic film at school in the darkroom, Sophie found her love for analogue photography. Graduating from UWE in Bristol, Sophie then went onto working in the photographic & film industry working on shoots for Bloomberg magazine, The Guardian Weekend, House and Garden, the Financial Times & Lloyds bank, before moving onto becoming a gallery manager, at Thackeray Gallery, one of the longest standing commercial galleries in the UK. CGC
Brockley Open Studios is a not for profit community arts group founded over 30 years ago. You can read about our story on the home page. We formally approved our organisation as an unincorporated association in March 2022. This was to improve transparency, clarify roles in the committee and ensure we are following up to date best practice and guidelines. Our constitution can be downloaded here.
Our aims are to:
Bring together the local community through providing free access to local arts through open studios and other community events
Enable local artists, in all disciplines/media to exhibit and sell their work outside a formal gallery or funding network through open studio events, workshops and fairs within Brockley
Provide artists with opportunities to network professionally, share information about and opportunities with other local initiatives
Promote local artists’ work through our website, social media and other communication methods
Ensure our events are inclusive, open to everyone and encourage all discipline/mediums beyond the traditional to celebrate the diversity of talents, traditions and culture in Brockley
Use all the funds raised to reinvest in these aims

Christmas Fair 2017
For the 2nd time we hosted our Artists Christmas Fair at St. Peter’s Church in Brockley where we welcomed over 250 visitors and featured the work of a variety of artists, designers and craftmakers.
Local artists sold artworks including painting, jewellery, pottery, cards, prints, fabric, sculpture and many more.
Brockley Open Studios 2017
Summer 2017 was an exciting time for Brockley Open Studios. We celebrated our 25th anniversary of local artists first opening their doors and sharing their talents with the community.
Over 3 days, 38 artists opened their studios to some 700 people. It was a fantastic opportunity to buy pieces directly from artists, or simply visiting and browsing through their artworks.
We celebrated with the publication of a book commemorating this special event. The book showcases some artists who have helped make this the anticipated annual event it has become.
