Julian Mills

My work spans drawing, printmaking, and painting, exploring still life, portraits and abstracted landscapes with a quiet, dreamlike ambiguity. I try to create images that hover between presence and absence, where narrative remains just out of reach.

This year I will present printmaking alongside new egg tempera paintings on coloured Italian gesso panels. Both processes emphasise slowness, precision, and sensitivity to surface, reinforcing a focus on stillness within the image. Rather than depicting action, the work invites sustained looking—spaces where time feels suspended and meaning unfolds gradually.

This year I plan to hang my work together with Amelia Power, we studied together at the Ruskin School of Fine Art, and we hope this joint showing will highlight our shared sensibilities.
