SONA koloyan

My new series is a collection of black line illustrations depicting tableaus, characters, and scenes inspired by my music. I am a self-taught illustrator working primarily with black pen and ink with a strong focus on detail and negative space, often inspired by medieval print, fantasy, and game art. Since my education was in music and I have no formal artistic training, my artwork has always felt like a more uninhibited expression of my creativity.

My artwork and music exist in the same universe, with one constantly “scoring” the other. Over the years I’ve created a tapestry of characters and settings, with events and plotlines in their development corresponding to my music, specifically my last EP, “Speaking Stones”. The characters themselves are embodiments of my journey with OCD, symbolising its often fantastical grip on the mind, the space it inhabits in my brain, and the resilience to break its cycle.
